NLSO Steel Pan Workshops at area schools usually begin with a short concert which allows
students to experience first hand the awesome, sweet, yet powerful sound of the only percussive
instrument developed in the 20th century.Workshops provide a unique opportunity for area students to learn the simple joy of making music together on an instrument that lends itself to the exuberance of youth! Within a 45 minute session students learn basic skills such as care of instruments, mallet control, instrument configuration (note layout), basic rhythms, and a song.
